Penny didn’t write this bio, and it’s not the usual bio in any case. Sure, I’ll tell you important things, like how she’s been a marriage coach for this whole millennium specializing in topics that make most folks very uncomfortable. And before that she had a great career printing. But that’s dull and you don’t really care. I’m going to tell you what you really care about. I’m going to tell you about Penny the person, not Penny the persona.
Penny cares. She cares more deeply than she lets on most of the time, and yet that’s the first thing that’ll hit you when you talk to her. She really cares about what matters, and doesn’t care at all about what doesn’t. The color of your skin, the gender of your partner, the flavor of your religion? Those are interesting to talk about on an intellectual level. But they don’t really matter. Your integrity matters. The people you love? They matter.
She blends her love of people with a sharp intellect. She’ll dissect your cherished beliefs and thought patterns, pull out the important bits, and from them build a new structure that you’re sure you didn’t think of yourself… and yet … the solution is perfectly YOU. Better yet, the solution is ethical. She studies ethics the way some of us read the funny pages when we were ten.
She knows the scripts of marital agony. She’s been there. She knows why a betrayed spouse cannot get away from that awful question, “Why won’t she just come home and forget about him?” She knows why an affair partner can say, honestly, “I never meant to hurt her.” She knows, too, how someone who’s having an affair can plan to leave his wife and redecorate the house with her at the same time. She understands the twisted mirror effect of addiction, the distorted reality of abuse. She has an uncanny ability to synthesize broad categories of information and, from that, come up with something completely new. You’ll walk away thinking, “Wow. How come no one else ever told me that?”
In a single hour on the phone – or in a friendship – with Penny, you may cover modern mythological archetypes, the biochemistry of love, recent work on healing, ethical constructs from Eastern and Western traditions, and how to use a condom. Best of all, at the end of it, you’ll know why those concepts are important in your life and for your unique situation – and you’ll have started to learn how to hold onto yourself as you grow into behaving with empowerment in your relationships.
Penny is an ordained minister in a religion that faces tremendous discrimination and prejudice. She drives two hours each way to a high security prison every Wednesday night (it’s a good night to reach her on her cell phone) to minister to the “lost boys” (as she affectionately calls them) who let her care for some part of their souls. She spends many hours in both the adult and juvenile corrections system, giving her time to people whom many consider lost causes. She enjoys every minute of it.
In her spare time, Penny founded and runs Save Your Marriage Central, Incorporated, the
SYMC Global Village (a non-profit corporation dedicated to the community support needed to save a marriage), and started the Marriage Fidelity Day campaign, a day to celebrate and act on commitment to marital vows. She’ll speak to you with passion and conviction on the topic of marriage, ethics, and why your vows matter. And she’ll awaken in you a belief in your own vows that you never knew you had. At the end of the day, you’ll know why you meant it when you said yes.
Penny has been published in local media, interviewed across the country regarding Marriage Fidelity Day, and appeared as a relationship expert on the NBC Today Show as a relationship expert.
