School of Coaching at SYMC

Marriage Coaching is the art of supporting a marriage, and the people in it, as the marriage experiences a difficult time. This is done by expanding the client's awareness of his or her own contribution to the painful dynamics and by facilitating a change in both internal and external conditions in order to change the situation. At SYMC we specialize in the extraordinarily difficult time in a marriage that arises with infidelity. We use a coaching model which addresses the issue head on and helps the involved parties to effect change. The changes required to navigate these difficult waters are counterintuitive, challenging, and require strategies that most people resist until there are no other options left. We do not give up on marriages, nor do we ever recommend divorce. We are with our clients through every step of their journey, no matter where that may take them.

Becoming a marriage coach offers both personal and professional benefits. In your personal life, your deeper understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships will help you create more satisfying relationships of your own. Professionally, you may want to pursue coaching on its own merits, or you may want to expand your skills and "toolkit" to complement what you're already doing. The SYMC program covers a wide variety of areas that affect marriage; it makes a wonderful addition to any marriage advocacy training.

A professional marriage coach, trained at SYMC, can ~

Give guidance and support for a spouse whose mate is having an affair ~
This coach understands the dynamics behind affairs. He or she helps expand the client's knowledge in order to support the client's efforts to take the counterintuitive steps needed to overcoming infidelity.

Support and guide a couple through the early days of recovery following the end of an affair ~
This is one of the most difficult times the marriage will face. This coach understands what to expect and how to keep the partners calm and on track.

Recognize subtle clues that suggest addictions other than an affair -

Work, gambling, alcohol are just a few of the addictions that plague marriages. Training at SYMC gives a broad overview of addiction, how to recognize the signs, the steps necessary to address it, and additional resources for the couple or individual. This is essential when working with a couple. It is not possible to heal a marriage while an active addiction is in the picture; anyone working in the marriage field must be familiar with the signs, symptoms, and standard approaches for effecting change when an addiction is part of the marriage.

Understands the dynamics of anger, control, and abuse ~
SYMC takes a zero tolerance stance on all physical violence. In cases where there is physical violence of any sort we recommend an immediate separation until the offending party gets help and can guarantee safety in the future. It is essential for all marriage professionals to recognize the signs and symptoms and to address this issue proactively and with sensitivity.

The SYMC SoC offers the most comprehensive and innovative training program for marriage coaches in the world. We are the only program to combine state-of-the-art coaching proficiencies with proven marriage healing strategies. The two year program is a rigorous course of study combining reading, writing, class work, and practical application of the material covered.

SYMC coaches have an in depth understanding of the tragic effects of divorce on the couple, the children, and on society as a whole. They are not neutral observers but dedicated advocates of marriage ~ skilled at helping partners create relationships which are deeply fulfilling. When one partner has done everything in his or her power to save and heal the marriage and the other continues in destructive behavior a difficult decision is faced. We do not advise anyone to seek a divorce, this is a personal decision, but we support and honor that decision when it has been made after all attempts at healing have been tried and failed.
