Mentor Services

SYMC Mentors provide a valuable additional level of support to the SYMC coaching client. Mentors are students of the SYMC School of Coaching (SoC) who have demonstrated a level of understanding regarding the basic dynamics of marriage and intimate relationships and an ability to relay that information in a way that is compassionate, concise, and supportive. Mentors provide this service as part of their training to become SYMC certified marriage coaches.

Mentors support the client as they make both internal and external changes directed at healing their marriage. Mentors offer suggestions and give how to advice based on what the client and the coach have identified as necessary steps toward recovery. Mentors give an immeasurable amount of emotional support to clients – particularly those struggling with a spouse’s infidelity or other addiction.

Mentoring is different from coaching in that mentoring supports the strategy developed in the coaching relationship. Mentoring is supportive more than tactical. The coach and the client work together to bring awareness of what needs to change to the surface and then to design both the strategy and environment to facilitate and drive those changes. Mentors support the process as it unfolds.

SYMC strongly believes that it takes far more than just 50 minute sessions with a coach or a counselor to save a marriage. It takes a village. Mentors are the backbone of the village. They give their heart and soul to the care and support of the people they serve. They are dedicated advocates of marriage and champions of the family. They are heroes of the highest order.

FAQ’s Mentors

How can I get a mentor?
Mentors are officially assigned to coaching clients by the coach. All SYMC coaching clients can request a mentor to help them with the process of healing their marriage. Our mentors volunteer their time as part of their SoC training, all the SYMC mentors are very busy and availability is not always assured.

What does a mentor do for me?
In addition to regular sessions with your coach, you will have similar sessions with your mentor to discuss your strategy and to help you through daily difficulties and issues. You may invite your mentor to observe your coaching sessions in order to have a stronger understanding of your situation and the tactics you are designing with your coach.

Is there an additional charge for a mentor?
There is. The fees help support the SoC, additional training events for our students, and for administering the mentor program. Ask your coach about a monthly package which includes mentor services.

Can I get a mentor without having a coach?
You cannot. Because the mentor acts as a support for the strategies developed in the coaching relationship it is not a stand alone service. Our mentors are a very valuable resource; the most profitable use of their time and talent is in conjunction with coaching.

Can I be a mentor?
You can! All SYMC mentors are students of the School of Coaching. More information here on the SoC and how you can join.
